The 2005 soccer season was a "time to remember" for the 14 and under Girls team - Frankies Red Devils. The team's many successes included:
- winning a qualifying tournament at Hamilton's Soccer World that placed Frankies in the National Indoor Championships in Michigan
- a trip to Disney's International Youth Soccer Tournament in Florida, finishing in the final four in two out of three tournaments
- battling for top spot in the first division, and
- being a finalist in the South Region Soccer League Cup.
Disney's International Youth Soccer Tournament
After a year of intense fundraising, Frankies left for sunny Florida on June 28th. . Brantford was one of many international teams attending this Disney Tournament. Other teams included Mexico, Guatemala , Denmark , England , Brazil , and France . Each player left their personal touch with the exchange of gifts before each game. Our gifts included pins from Brantford , Canadian flag pins, and personal Canadian keepsakes made by our team members.
Each game started with an International Walk onto the field, and a very special moment occurred when our girls sang the Canadian national anthem
before our final game of the tournament.
What a great tournament! Frankies brought home a finalist trophy and medallions along with those precious memories of the great times at Disney theme parks that will last a lifetime.
League Cup Finalist
The 2005 season included our girls being finalists in the South Region Soccer League Cup. This was particularly rewarding since Frankies was a First Division Team and had to successfully compete against the Premiere Division teams to reach the finals. Frankies won matches against Gu
elph , Cambridge , and Brams United to reach the final against Oakville . In the final, Frankies was held to a 2-2 tie in the regulation and overtime play before losing in the shootout.
Each player gave 110% and felt a great sense of accomplishemnt and pride following this final.
Summary
The 2005 soccer season was a great example of this team sport going far beyond playing soccer on the field. Our girls and their families turned a huge obstacle like the costs of attending the Disney Tournament into a challenge that could be successfully conquered. Our girls realized that the efforts of 16 individual players were good but the efforts of 16 team players were outstanding. The girls realized that the support from the community was valuable and essential to our success and that our team could say thank you by supporting other community projects or fundraisers (i.e. a BBQ for Participation House). The coaches realized that with the experiences that our girls gained over the 2005 season - not only did we have great athletes on the team but we have great future community leaders!
Many thanks goes out to the BICS executive, BICS coaches and volunteers whose support for the players and team are greatly appreciated. We are a true, strong soccer club. Many thanks to Frankies, our sponsor - Frank and Rita White whose caring and support were tremendous. The countless hours of work that goes into running the Nevada draw in support of BICS is rarely recognized.
