Brantford Intercity Soccer Club
The Brantford Intercity Soccer Club hosted their sixth annual invitational tournament this past weekend; it was a tremendous success. The club hosted 77 teams in the Under-10 to Under-13 age division for both girls and boys from cities ranging from as far away as Windsor, Sudbury, Sarnia, Belleville and Sault Saint Marie.
The local Brantford teams fared very well, with the Under-12 boys team winning their division with a 1-0 thriller vs. Windsor and the Under-11 Girls ending as finalists with a hard fought 1-0 loss to Kitchener.
The Under-12 girls and Under-13 boy’s teams also competed well in their respective groups. The girls were in tough against St. Catherine’s, Mt Hamilton and Georgetown while the boys lost 2-1 in penalties to London United in a Quarterfinal match.
The winner of the soccer ball for the Brantford 12 boys team, which was selected by the opposing coach in the final match, was David Eves, while the game MVP and winner of a McDonald’s Roots watch, as selected by the officials, was Ben Turnbull.
For the 11-girls team, Chantel Leone was selected the watch winner and Tasha Hnatiuk won the soccer ball.
With expected rotating power stoppages and a slight bit of rain, a good time was had by all over the weekend at eight different soccer fields across the city.
Next weekend, the second half of the tourney will take place, with the Under-14 and up competing. The tournament will take place at the following parks: Lion’s Park, John Wright Soccer Complex, Mohawk Park, Waterworks Park, Greenbrier, Spring Gardens and Cedarland Park.

The Brantford Intercity Soccer Club hosted the second half of their sixth annual invitational tournament this past weekend; it was again a tremendous success. The club hosted 63 teams in the Under-14 to Under-17 age divisions for both girls and boys from cities ranging from as far away as Windsor, Sudbury, Sarnia, Belleville and Sault Saint Marie. The previous weekend, we hosted 77 teams in the U-10 to U-13 category.
Of the local Brantford teams, our Under 14 boys team advanced from their group only to be upset 2-1 in the quarterfinals by Cambridge. The Under-14 and 16 girls and Under 15 boys did not advance, but played competitively in all their three Saturday games. The U-16 girls finished with a record of one win, a tie and a loss, the win coming from a close fought 1-0 defeat over Alliston. The U-14 girl’s record of one tie and 2 losses was highlighted by the 0-0 draw vs. Clarkson and the U15 boys finished 1-1-1 with a big win vs. a tough St. Catherines Roma team.
In each of the finals, the opposing coaches were asked to select a member of the opposing team to award a soccer ball to while the officials selected an overall MVP who was awarded a McDonald’s Roots watch.
